Also, can log off and 2nd user can log in, but when I try to log back in on my acct, no cursor in box and have to re-start to log in. would appreciate the fix for this problem, thanks in advance! Here is my info:

Enable or Disable Fast User Switching
Note: To enable Fast User Switching, you must also enable the Use the Welcome screen option. This feature cannot be used if your computer is a member of a domain.

To enable Fast User Switching:

• Log on to the computer as an administrator.
• Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
• Click Change the way users log on or off.
• If it is not already selected, click to select the Use the Welcome screen check box.
  
  NOTE: The Use Fast User Switching check box is unavailable until you click to select the Use the Welcome screen check box.
  
  Then:
  
• Click to select the Use Fast User Switching check box, and then click Apply Options. Then click out of the User Accounts tool.

If that doesn't help, try this:

Click on the link below. A binary box will pop up on your screen. Click the Save File button at the bottom.

Link to click--> Restore Fast User Switching

This will place an icon on your desktop that looks like this-->

Double click the icon and follow the prompts.

Hi rc775,

Sorry for the delay. Please don't switch member accts. ... you confused me. I just want to prevent from giving you the wrong advice for the wrong issue.

Try entering Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key continually till you see the Advanced Options menu and navigate with your arrows keys to Safe mode Option at the top and press enter and try to log on as Administrator.

Then go to Control Panel > User Accounts and try to enable Fast User Switching that way.

I'll do a bit more research to see what I can find.

Also went to safe mode, logged in as Administrator, tried to install Power Toys, and got this: System Administrator will not allow or something like that!

I have seen many fixes for this from merely turning off computer and rebooting to accessing Task Manager to see if the Service is turned on to reformatting.

Has this just recently been an issue or has it been awhile since this started.

Have you tried a System Restore to a time before this occurred?

Do you have an XP disk? You can borrow one if you don't, then you'll be able to do a Repair Install and keep all your personal data intact though I would suggest to make a back up before you begin the Repair Install. And as admin states in the link below you will have to visit Windows Updates to bring your System back up to date.

I'm running out of ideas here. Let's see if other members have any that they can include that may help.

Thanks for trying to help me with this problen, have already tried System Restore, with no luck. Not worried about the fast switching, but the disappearing cursor in the login box and having to re-start is the annoying part. I can go to wifes account, then log off and my cursor will be there, but when she goes to her acct for awhile and logs out, that's when the cursor disappears in my login box. Have asked her what she is doing to cause this, says nothing! hehee
