Hi,

:D

I downloaded WinRar, and am trying to .rar the minidump but access is denied.

Try copying it first to a folder before zipping it. Alternatively, you can upload the file to a file host i.e. www.mediafire.com and then post the link.

You asked if I have any problems with this OS. The only thing I can't seem to get working is sound.

Now that's boring. :D

Does the machine have a discreet soundcard (addon) or is it internal?

Internal. The sound issue is not a big thing we can do that last.

Hi,

Well be trying things again, when you're ready.

I would like you to download the Windows 7 repair disc from here

This will install the Windows 7 equivalent of the recovery console

Download the ISO file and then burn to disc as a bootable image

If you do not have any disc burning software, then download and install Imgburn
Once Imgburn is installed just double click the ISO file you downloaded and Imgburn will open to burn it to disc.

Next

Turn off the ailing computer and remove 3 sticks of RAM memory. (Well be using a single stick)
Turn on your computer and press Del to Enter BIOS; Press F9 to load default values; then change the onboard SATA setting to Native IDE. Save the changes.
Restart your computer, then press Alt+F10 during startup. Gateway Recovery Management opens.
Click on Restore system from factory default.
Caution: Continuing the process will erase all files on your hard drive.
Click on Next. Your hard drive’s original, factory-loaded contents are recovered. This process will take several
minutes.
Wait till your received the BSOD then reboot your computer using the recovery disc we first created and select repair my computer.

I did as you asked above. But, the last step. BSOD never showed up. After saying "Setting up Desktop" a window came up asking if I want to instal 60 day trial for Norton, I said no, so it loaded the desktop. It is updating as we speak. Once it is done I will restart, then go to youtube to check sound. After that I will turn PC off and put the other 3 RAM sticks in, then if everything still works, I will start to instal some of my programs again. And this time the other users will get very tight parental controls handed to them, so they can't f*ck things up anymore. I don't even care if it was their fault or not :D This is my precious.

Hi kinyo,

Congratulations. I believe the machine is now good as new. ;)

Please include my recommendations below fine tuning and protecting your computer.

Antivirus Programs
Antivirus program is very important in keeping your machine clean and in tiptop condition. I recommend installing one of these free antivirus If you don't have one installed,
Note: You must install only one antivirus.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Below are links to several programs that will help protect your computer.

Anti-Spyware
I recommend downloading and installing one of the following applications.
  • SpywareBlaster keeps spyware from installing on your system - read the tutorial here
  • SpywareGuard protects your browser and computer in real time - read the tutorial here
  • SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition detects and removes spyware, adware, malware, trojans, rogue software, worms, rootkits, parasites and other potentially harmful software applications - read the tutorial here

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Other things to keep in mind.

Windows, Java, and Adobe products should all be kept up-to-date on a regular basis so the latest security fixes are in place on your computer. Please refer to the following links on how to manage these products.

Here are a few other applications you might consider. Keeping your temporary file area clean, your Windows registry backed up, and backing up your important data are all good techniques.
  • Flush Flash - by Bobbi Flekman - cleans Flash Player cookies
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) - a registry backup utility
  • Cobian Backup - a very good backup utility - read the tutorial here
  • WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
  • Green to go
  • Yellow for caution
  • Red to stop
WOT has an addon available for Chrome and Opera.
Please remember that just having these programs is not enough. You must use them. Running a full spyware scan weekly, a full virus scan monthly, and checking for updates and cleaning your temporary files periodically is very important in keeping your computer in tip-top shape.

Finally, please take the time to read the following articles. Applying this information will help prevent future infections:

How to prevent malware by miekiemoes
Preventing Malware and Safe Computing by Rorschach112

This article will help you understand how you may have gotten infected:
How did I get infected in the first place?

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. :D
