You still have some suspicious files. Before we start cleaning up your log please run a free online virus scan here:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from here (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version and always go online and update it before you run it).

After installing AAW, and before running the program, you must FIRST update the reference file following these instuctions. (and you must always do this before you run the program at any later date).

Now do the following:

Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives. It will find a number of spyware files and registry keys. Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

Now press "Next" again. It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

Run Hijack This again and post back a fresh log.

While the scanning operations with the Micro Trend software gave no results, my McAfee VirusScan (weekly updated) revealed lots of this:

c:/windows\downloaded program files\CONFLICT.1\clxys1m_adult.exe\CLXYS1M-ADULT.EXE

that could not be cancelled, only quarantined. Lately, I was literally invaded by
all sorts of "spontaneous" attacks by XXXadult-somethings that I never had to do with, but a friend of mine cleaned my system and made it work again. After which, the p2esocks thing, and today these virus alerts. How can all this happen, without me visiting porn sites or other clearly dangerous ones? I know my questions sound naive, but I really feel so exposed and powerless!

Awaiting your reply, thank you again.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [[Ephemeral 2.4] by TreeHugger, ] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Update] C:\WINDOWS\System32\msisoz.exe

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msisoz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\eedfaqhg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\snlogsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\p2esocks_1020.dll

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Still a stuborn entry to get rif of. Fix this entry with Hijack This:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [[Ephemeral 2.4] by TreeHugger, ] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log. <_<

Hi,
some days ago you wrote:

I followed your suggestion step by step, but no way the HKLM\..\Run etc. thing lets
Hijack fix it! I tried again and again, but the file's always there!

Hi,
this is the third time I try answering your last message dated 17 Aug,
saying "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [[Ephemeral 2.4] by TreeHugger, ] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\2.tmp.exe".

I don't know where my previous two messages ended up, but the fact is, I
cannot fix the above mentioned file. I followed your instructions step by step,
but apparently there's no way of getting rid of it. What kind of file is it, what
kind of problems can it give rise to? Anyway, here's my fresh log:

This is a trojan. Strange it wasn't picked up by Housecall or The Cleaner. Let's try this free online scan:
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm

Fix anything found, reboot and reply with a fresh log. <_<

Merged topics (again).

Uninstall McAfee (it doesn't seem to be working anyway). Download the free version of AVG here: http://www.google.co...eeweb.php&e=747

Install AVG and run a full system scan. Reboot and post a new log when finished. <_<
