If you use the Product Recovery CD/DVD-ROM you will lose any software you have installed and any other files you have created since you set up your computer. Please note that your Computer may have been delivered with additional software installed. Additional software can not be recovered from the Product Recovery DVD alone. You will need to install these applications (e.g. Works Suite, DVD Player, Games, etc.) separately from other media.

Shoot eh, it has really come to that? Should we be trying any of the system restore points before going all the way to a full re-install?
I'm looking into backing up all my stuff, my only problem will be for the Microsoft office, need to make sure I still have the CD key.
Thanks again for all your help and support! Does Geeks to Go have a good how-to guide for re-installing windows?
Thanks

Going for a restore point is well worth a try - go for the earliest one you have and let me know the result - I do have a re-install tutorial if need be. But I believe your dvd will allow a windows only repair

Hey, sorry for the late response, I was just making sure to backup everything on my computer.
Unfortunately couldn't access system restore, surprise surprise.
I just went to re-install windows, and used the option "reset to factory settings" and I got an error, ERROR:05000000, an error has occuped, please press OK to turn off the computer.
So I guess I'll pick the second option which was "erase the hard drive"?
Thanks for all your help,
Maxime

Hey,
So I've reinstalled windows, in the process of transferring all of my files, settings, etc. I'll run all the windows updates, get Microsoft security, etc.
Is there stuff you wanted to check to make sure the problems were all gone?
Thanks

On my first bootup, the whole desktop was frozen. I had to manually reset.

Not really give it a good run for 24 hours or so, then I will ask you to run an OTL log to see if there is any fine tuning to be done. Then give you some tools to stay clean and fast

I'm having a whole bunch of problems with my backup files
My network settings file doesn't work.
My big backup (I used Backup application) had an error: "an inconsistency was encountered in the requested backup file"
I'm trying to copy the backup file off my harddrive and onto the computer so hopefully it will run better.

Could you run a check disc on the backup drive
Click the my computer icon on the desktop and it will open to show your drives
Select the backup drive and right click
Select properties
Then the Tools tab
Then select error checking
