Programs Randomly Closing

Hello.

I'm having a problem with my Dell Dimmension 4600 running WinXP. I'm a software tester who works on more than one machine at a time. Often, when I return to this machine, something has closed or tried to close the program in the foreground (firefox, word, whatever). I've poked around looking for what might be causing this with no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas?
