Good then I would say the issue is the memory first.
After replacing that or upgrading to then we can work on the other issues if there are any.

Well I've removed the 1GB and the computer used to run fine on 512, it just got slower. So we can proceed to other things if you think we should. I probably will be shopping around for some new RAM but that doesn't stop us from continuing :D
Right now, I want to run windows update and it doesn'T work, so I'm updating to internet explorer 8, maybe that's what was screwing up. Although the installation doesn't seem to be working yet, it's staying at the "downloading updates for internet explorer 8". We'll see if it let's me update the computer!

OK not a problem. When it is done then we can look at the update issue. When you go to windows update are you getting a error message or what?

It just hangs on the "Checking for the latest updates on your computer". I've added the site to my trusted sites, no change.
The IE8 installation was also hanging and I cancelled it.

Haha of course it just started to work!! This was the third time I tried. haha. Okay I'm going to install updates and let you know how it goes!

It needed to do a software upgrade before I could access the updates, so maybe that's what was having trouble.
Downloading update 1 of 80 right now :D
