I am getting an error message when I log into my pc. The message is called a File Name Warning and it says c:\program allreadys exsists. Renaming the file to program 1 will stop problems or soemthing like that.

any ideas on what is wrong or how to get rid of it?

Welcome to GTG.

Any specific filename mentioned there? Did you run spyware and virus scans?

the file name was c:\program. I have run Mcafee, spybot, adaware, and Microsofts beta spyware program. It tries to rename the file c:\program1 or c:\program2 etc.....

I forgot to mention that I also am having problems with Star Wars galaxies which happened around the same time this error first started happening. It appears that when I try and go into aol or Mcafee the Sony Online Entertainment lanchers tryies to run an update but can't. not sure if the two are related but it all started at the same time
Matt

Thanks I really appreciate it. The machine is only 5 months old and I'd hate to live with these errors for the remainder of it's life with me

Hi Matt, I did a little more searching for this problem and it could be due to a few reasons.

1. Do you have mIRC installed? Did you download any add-ons for it if you have mIRC?

2. The Star Wars Galaxies game (?) could be the problem. You have to find a way to uninstall it and reinstall.

3. That file might be useless. But just to make sure it's not malicious, go to c: drive and look for the program file - it's a windows file and not a folder. Once found, go to this site and browse for that file. Upload it and submit it. What is the analysis?

You may also try opening up that c:\program file in Notepad and see what it says.

I have fully uninstalled galaxies and I still see the problem so I don't think it is that.

Here is the analysis on the file from that site you refered me too:
Service load: 0% 100%

File: Program1
Status: OK

ClamAV Found nothing
Dr.Web Found nothing
F-Prot Antivirus Found nothing
Fortinet Found nothing
Kaspersky Anti-Virus Found nothing

what is a mIRC? not sure if I have one installed or not???

I have tried deleting the file but it keeps comming back.

Let me know what you think

P.S. I'm installing Galaxies so hopefully that message will pop again and I can show you

OK, we can rule mIRC out then? :tazz: It's a chat (file sharing) program.

OK, open it up in Notepad and tell me what it says there.

What happens if you rename it? I assume it's program.exe now right? Rename it to program2.exe instead.
