Can't install/uninstall certain programs like itunes

Every time I try to uninstall itunes from the programs list a little box pops up and says "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

I'm not running my system in safe mode. Also, I'm the administrator profile for my laptop and some programs tell me I don't have the rights to install or uninstall some programs. It tells me to contact the system administrator. It's so frustrating. Please help me.

I'm having similar problems with camera software. The camera is out of date, so I can't get help from the company. I really hate how they do that. Something went wrong with it and I need to uninstall it, but can't, and can't reinstall it from the disk. The only thing I can work with is some program that comes with it, but can't delete the camera. I tried everything I can think of, went to the scanners and cameras section, I even looked for it in the registry but can't see it there. It's like the program is partly there but not all there. I can't even look at the properties. The machine in question was taken offline 2 years ago and lent it to a friend. I showed hm how to use the admin account, too, where all this is happening. He's not technically minded, but he's very intuitive and has figured out things I couldn't, but this camera problem is a mystery. If anyone has any idea what to do, we'd really appreciate it. It's an XP, home edition. blueblue

Download and install Revo Uninstaller
  • Double click the Revo Uninstaller icon on your desktop to start the program
  • Scroll through the listed programs and Right Click on the program you wish to uninstall
  • From the pop out menu choose Uninstall
  • Click Yes to the confirmation dialogue
  • In the next window select the Advanced mode
  • Click Next to start uninstalling the program
  • Answer Yes to confirm the uninstall
  • When the program has completed the four steps, click Next to allow the program to search for leftovers
  • Once complete, click Next, then Finish
  • Repeat the above steps for any other programs you wish to remove.

Hello again! I downloaded that uninstaller program but it didn't find the camera. There's error codes in the Event Viewer for that date when the problem started, but I have no idea how to interpret them, and since that machine is not updated for Internet since almost 2 years ago, I can't go online to look it up and I don't want to put it online so I'll have to copy the codes and go to mcrosoft's site to see what I can find I guess. More false hope I guess. Sincerely, [color=blue[blueblue[/color] :(

What OS?
  • Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso VEW and save it to your Desktop:
  • Double-click VEW.exe
  • Under 'Select log to query', select (as appropriate):
    • Application
    • System
  • Under 'Select type to list', select (as appropriate):
    • Error
    • Information
    • Warning
Then use the 'Date of events' or 'Number of events' as follows:

Either:
  • Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
    Type 3 in the 1 to 20 box (or any number from 1 to 20)
    Then click the Run button.
    Notepad will open with the output log.

  • Click the radio button for 'Date of events'
    In the From: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 03 2012
    In the To: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 03 2012
    Then click the Run button.
    Notepad will open with the output log.

Go to

Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
Click Enter ...It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y
If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually. On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
This one will take longer then chkdsk /f

Note... there are 5 stages...
It may appear to hang at a certain percent for a hour or more or even back up and go over the same area...this is normal...
DO NOT SHUT YOUR COMPUTER DOWN WHILE CHKDSK IS RUNNING OR YOU CAN HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS
This can take several hours to complete.
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

Reboot after your done running chkdsk /r...
then Go to Start...Run and type: eventvwr.msc press Enter
When Event Viewer opens, click on Applications... then scroll down to Winlogon and double-click on it. This is the log created after running Checkdisk...copy and paste the log back here


We will advise after studying the log.

Hello it didn't take long at all, I don't know why. I can't copy the log, don't know why. Can I use that utility program to get it? I've never been able to copy from event viewer. :(

If you highlight all and then right click does it give you the option to copy?
You could also try to attach it if you can.

OK then try to attach the whole log.


How to attach a file:

  • Look below the Fast Reply box at the bottom of this page, click on Use Full Editor button.
  • Scroll down and click on the Browse button.
  • Click on location of the log found in left pane.
  • Click the Open button.
  • Click the Attach This File button.
  • Click Add Reply button and that will attach the file to your next post.

OK I'll try it, tried once before here for something else and for some reason I couldn't do it. I don't know why. My browser has addons and maybe that's blocking things. I unblocked a lot of those but still couldn't attach a file. This is very frustrating. It means a lot to me to get this help. The xp computer is a friend's, the program in question is for a camera. I never tried doing this for event viewer so it may take awhile.
