Someone got into our online credit card card information and changed the billing address and email account information. I am not sure how it happened but I have ran my Kaspersky internet scans, and also malwarebytes. Please help! I am afraid to do any business transactions online.
Thank you,
Cathy

Hello Cathy J and welcome to G2G! :D

My nick is maliprog and I'll will be your technical support on this issue. Before we start please read my notes carefully:

NOTE:
  • Malware removal is NOT instantaneous, most infections require several courses of action to completely eradicate.
  • Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean
  • Kindly follow my instructions in the order posted. Order is crucial in cleaning process.
  • Please DO NOT run any scans or fix on your own without my direction.
  • Please read all of my response through at least once before attempting to follow the procedures described.
  • If there's anything you don't understand or isn't totally clear, please come back to me for clarification.
  • Please do not attach any log files to your replies unless I specifically ask you. Instead please copy and paste so as to include the log in your reply.
  • You must reply within three days or your topic will be closed

Step 1

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :OTL
    O33 - MountPoints2\{b4abfa82-60dc-11dd-a6ea-001e37a53366}\Shell\AutoRun\command - "" = C:\Windows\System32\setupSNK.exe -- [2008/01/20 20:23:31 | 000,013,312 | ---- | M] (Microsoft Corporation)
    O33 - MountPoints2\{ce0fd1b9-60f5-11dd-ae7e-001e37a53366}\Shell\AutoRun\command - "" = F:\setupSNK.exe

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [emptyflash]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Post the fix log it produces in your next reply.

Step 2

Download GMER from Here. Note the file's name and save it to your root folder, such as C:.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security program drivers will not conflict with this file.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled.
  • Double-click on the downloaded file to start the program. (If running Vista, right click on it and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Allow the driver to load if asked.
  • You may be prompted to scan immediately if it detects rootkit activity.
  • If you are prompted to scan your system click "No", save the log and post back the results.
  • If not prompted, click the "Rootkit/Malware" tab.
  • On the right-side, all items to be scanned should be checked by default except for "Show All". Leave that box unchecked.
  • Select all drives that are connected to your system to be scanned.
  • Click the Scan button to begin. (Please be patient as it can take some time to complete)
  • When the scan is finished, click Save to save the scan results to your Desktop.
  • Save the file as Results.log and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.
  • Exit the program and re-enable all active protection when done.

Step 3

Please don't forget to include these items in your reply:

  • OTL fix log
  • GMER log
It would be helpful if you could post each log in separate post

Maliprog, I downloaded and ran GMER but about 5 minutes into the scan a box popped up saying "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is found"... :D

Hi Cathy J

There is no room for panic....jet :D. Let's try Rotkit UnHooker

Rootkit UnHooker (RkU)
Please download Rootkit Unhooker from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
Link 1 (.exe file)
Link 2 (zipped file)
Link 3 (.rar file)In order to use this tool if you downloaded from either of the second two links, you will need to extract the RKUnhookerLE.exe file using a program capable of extracing ZIP and RAR compressed files. If you don't have an extraction program, you can downlaod, install and use the free 7-zip utility.

  • Double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to start the program.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
  • Check Drivers, Stealth, and uncheck the rest.
  • Click OK.
  • Wait until it's finished and then go to File > Save Report.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the report into your next reply.
-- Note: You may get this warning...just ignore it, click OK and continue: "Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself! It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?".

Maliprog I am a bit worried about the last thing that I had to run. My Kaspersky said it was high risk. I also hope I can finish this before I have to go away for some health stuff...been fighting the big C for the last couple of years. If I have to go for some treatments again soon do we need to clear off the stuff you had me download first? I would like to be able to take my computer with me but fear I wont be able to. Its kind of my only contact with my family. I will check back here later today. Thank you again for helping me. :D

Hi Cathy J,

For now your logs are clean. Let's make sure your system is clean:

Step 1

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Step 2

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and click Scan to run express scan. Click OK in pop-up window to allow scan.
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, select Complete scan.
  • Complete scan sometimes takes up to 3 hours to finish so please be patient.
  • Click the green arrow Posted Image at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click File and choose Save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • Copy and paste that log in the next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.

NOTE. During the scan, pop-up window will open asking for full version purchase. Simply close the window by clicking on X in upper right corner.

Dr Web went through the quick scan ok and showed 0 problems. The complete scan ran for hrs and showed 7 trojans then my computer shut down half way through. I tried to run it again and about 2 hrs into the scan it was only about 1/8 through the scan so I went ahead and shut it down. I am not sure what to do next. :D I did not write down the trojans because I didn't think the computer would shut down like it did... :D I will wait for you to tell me what to do next...thanks for your help...

Hi Cathy J,

Dr.Web probably removed them so don't worry. Let's try AVP instead Dr.Web...

Download AVPTool from Here to your desktop

Run the programme you have just downloaded to your desktop (it will be randomly named )

First we will run a virus scan
On the first tab select all elements down to Computer and then select start scan
Once it has finished select report and post that.

Posted Image

Do not close AVPTool or it will self uninstall, if it does uninstall - then just rerun the setup file on your desktop
