Windows Live Messenger crashes

Hi! I recently bought a HP DV6 3134ca laptop and just started up the new downloaded version of Windows Live Messenger. It opens, but freezes on the startup screen where it shows your feeds, and contacts; without actually loading any feeds. It does, however, load contacts. How can I make it work? It's quite annoying having to use Web Messenger instead.
