I retrieved a donated laptop for updating prior to passing it along. I believe it may have come from a business. I tried to access windows updates as after seven months, I was sure there would be some. I just get an error meessage about trying later or checking my temp files, etc. I the went to Secunia as that was recommended. It found updates for two software programs on the laptop, but no Windows Xp updates. Could the laptop somehow be restricted by the former owner/administrator which might forbid updating?

From Microsoft:

Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) ended on July 13, 2010

You won't get any security updates from Windows Update after that date.
