I have an ASUS desktop PC, Model CG5275. Windows 7, 64 bit.

I am an amateur photographer and on a daily basis I am downloading photos from my camera via the memory cards directly into the computer. That is, until yesterday when out of the blue the card reader is not working.

Does this sound like an update issue?? The ASUS web site is too confusing for me to figure out without being hand fed info.

Thanks in advance.

No, it does not show up in the computer info.

I am comparing what shows up on my desktop ASUS to my laptop computer.

As an aside, my D-drive on the desktop is completely empty, though the laptop one shows an amount in that one.

conclusion: Same memory disk works in laptop, shows up in computer info; same disk does not show up in ASUS.

Try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to the 27th when your computer was functioning correctly:

I tried to do the system restore with your very usable link (THANK YOU).... tried it twice and it did not work.

Advanced settings might have to be used....(?)... which, of course, I have no idea how to work with.

Possibly a failing/dead card reader? I'd test it with another card or two.

If that fails, delete/uninstall it in Device Manager, reboot, then test again.

If it still fails and the ASUS is still under warranty, I'd call ASUS.

If it still fails and it's not under warranty, one option would be to use a USB card reader. For example:

Thanks for your responses! I am going to just go ahead and buy an external card driver.

Have a great rest of the weekend.
