I am having a problem when I try to upgrade to Firefox 1.04, and to the new iTunes 4.8. I am also having a problem when I try to shut down or restart my computer. It takes about 5 minutes for the computer to turn off. I am running the latest Windows XP and use the latest Norton Firewall.

The specifics:

Firefox: version 1.02 works fine. When I installed 1.03 and 1.04, I can't seem to connect to the internet, and no pages come back. I occasionally get a Norton Firewall message that asks if I want to Automatically permit Firefox to to access the internet. I click yes, but never get any connection. My solution has been to reinstall v1.02

iTunes: I installed version 4.8 and it seemed to work fine on the initial installation. Now when I start the iTunes app, I see iTunes.exe in the task manager, but the application never launches. I tried to reinstall the previous version, but can't. I also intermittently see the same Norton Firewall message that asks if I want to Automatically permit iTunes to to access the internet. I click yes, but never get the application to launch.

Here is the hijackthis file. Does anyone see anything suspicious here that could explain why I am having these problems?

Thank you so much for your help.
Tommy

Welcome to GTG.

Please make sure that Word Wrap is turned OFF in Notepad next time. As you can see the formatting it creates makes it hard for us to read it here.

OK, your log looks clean. It's most likely Norton FIrewall like you said. I have said this to many users and will say the same to you. Norton Firewall can be a pain sometimes. Try disabling it and see if you can go online with Firefox. I suggest getting rid of Norton and use the free version of ZoneAlarm instead.

Just as a PostScript to this problem, I changed the setting on the Norton Firewall level from Medium to Low, based on a suggestion from another website. No more problems with Firefox 1.04 or iTunes. I hope this does not make me more succeptible to other viruses or malware, but the firewall was definitely the problem.

Thanks
