suddenly my hard drive is full

Hi, I have a Gateway pc with windows XP with service pack 3. Last year the hard drive failed I replaced the 250 GB HD with a 500GB WD hard drive I have removed a lot of my old software and gave it to my daughters.I ran the disk clean up two times I ran TFC cleaner , I ran the disk checker and I ran a complete system scan with Norton 360 and nothing has changed. Thanks for your help Mike
