When I try to start my computer it starts up and then says do you want to setup XP or run Windows XP and i click Setup windows XP because I just recently got a new mother board, processor, and ram for my computer. When I click setup it says checking system and then goes to the blue screen and then it comes up as install windows. So i click on that and then it says There is not a CD-ROM drive. I have checked all of my cables and they are conected right and the light turns on when i start my computer. I was wondering if I can get my computer to recognize my CD-ROM. I dont know if it has something to do with my BIOS or what. I would really like it if someone could help me get this working.

Thanks

Hi lastresort,

are you familiar with BIOS? when you first boot the PC, the screen will display what key to press to enter BIOS. do that, and first look in IDE configuration, to see if your CD drive is recognized. if not, you will need to set that so it is.
if the drive is recognized, go over to the boot order section, and set the CD to boot before the hard drive.

let me know if you have any questions on that, etc.

no worries!

it should be under the main tab. might be called drive configuration, or it may just list the primary master, primary slave, secondary master and slave.
primary master should be your hard drive, secondary master should be the CD, and any other drives you may have will be in there as well.
depending on your BIOS, you may need to set the CD to either auto, or CDrom, specifically.

if you still cant find it, give me the make/model of your machine. if its custom, give me the make/model of the motherboard. we can look up the BIOS and make sure we are looking at the settings correctly.
