i reinstalled the xp on my old computer however when i try to download the drivers for my belking router i keep getting the message.

i have been reading on the sight of some problems people have been having but eather i cannot open the links that they list or the programs that i try to save to a flash drive does not help my old notebook.

if anyone has some ideas i would love to try them. thanks in advance

Start Control Panel administrative functions, services, scroll down to Windows Installer, and double click

3. Before trying the other suggestions on the link
I would try a full chkdsk and system file checker.

4. If still no success download and reinstall the windows installer service.

You more than likely require the last download on the list presuming that it is 32 bit XP
You may of course have a problem installing this - but please try it.

5. If still no luck - go to the link and try all other resolutions.

i found number 4 that you listed. i tried to open the program thim morning however i cannot open it. i am going to try the other things that you listed and hopefully they will work.

Have you checked this.
Are you logged on as admin user
Change Permissions
Log on to the Windows XP computer with an administrator user account, and verify that you have the correct permissions for the C:\Windows\Installer folder. Follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
2. Click Folder Options on the Tools menu.
3. Click the View tab.
4. Click Show hidden files and folders,and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System files, agree the warning and then click Apply and OK.
5. Locate the folder C:\Windows\Installer.
6. Right-click the Installer folder, and then click Properties.
7. Click the Security tab.
8. Click System, and then verify that the Full control check box is selected.
9. Click Administrators, and then verify that the Full control check box is selected.
10. Click your user name, and then verify that the Full control check box is selected.
11. Click Apply and OK as required

When you installed have you created a user account.
Are you signed on in that account
Is that account an adminstrator account.

No I don't think I did I did set a password that I use to start the computer

With respect we are going round in circles - go to Control Panel, click User Accounts
Is the account you are using AN ADMIN account.

If it is NOT and an admin account has NOT been created then on the Welcome screen there will be an option to sign in as ADMIN ACCOUNT - that is the built in admin account that does not have a password.

If an admin account was created then the built in admin account is NOT on the welcome screen and can be accessed by this.
The built-in Administrator account is hidden from Welcome Screen when a user account with Administrator privileges exists and enabled. In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only. For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your Administrator password in the classic logon window that appears.
