Do you have it connected both with an Ethernet cable and wirelessly? That can confuse things.

"Log: 'System' Date/Time: 27/02/2011 12:53:38 PM

Your computer has lost the lease to its IP address 192.168.100.10 on the Network Card with network address 0013D492876E.

Log: 'System' Date/Time: 27/02/2011 12:53:06 PM

The IP address lease 192.168.0.2 for the Network Card with network address 0013D492876E has been denied by the DHCP server 0.0.0.0 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message)."

Or is it jumping between your router and your neighbor's? Or were you playing with the router at this time?

The error with SP3 has a MS fixit on this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

Try it and see if that helps.

I think I did have the wireless internet connection still active while having it hardwired as well. I have disabled the wireless connection now. it is still hanging up a bit.

I tried the install after restarting my computer and it did the same thing. I will now try it with a restart and disable my Avast.

Down at the bottom of the link I gave you it says:

Fix it for me
To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard.

Right below it is a button that says FixIt

http://go.microsoft....?linkid=9730795

Did you try that?

the fix it thing worked, but when I restarted my computer it would keep rebooting, a screen would pop up saying sorry for the inconvenience but windows did not load, then I can choose between safe mode, safe mode with network, last know good config. so I have to boot in safe mode and uninstall the SP3 then it works again.

What make and model PC do you have? I know some AMD based systems have similar problems with SP3. Just recently had an HP that did that but there was a fix on the HP site for it.

ok, I found the patch and installed it. then updated my system. it had 11 updates, non of them said SP3, they were all security updates. it worked fine and rebooted and worked normal. when I go into control panel and system it still says XP SP2 in there, is that normal? then I tried to go back to the windows update and it just sat there trying to find up dates for my computer.

so the little yellow shield popped up at the bottom of the screen and said there was an update. it was trying to update the XML core services 6.0 update 1 of 2 failed and then 2 of 2 worked. not sure what that means. still nothing about SP3.

Which Presario do you have and which patch did you find?

Can you run Vino's Event Viewer again so I can see what went wrong?

Doesn't sound like you got SP3. You can download the big version
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en
and try it.

almost forgot, after I installed the core services update, when I restarted the computer I got the blue screen that said the following

checking file system on L:
the type of the file system is FAT32
a disk check has been scheduled
windows will now check the disk
volume serial number is B117-A94C
windows is verifying files and folders

it finished that and then checked something else and restarted. everything seems fine with the machine after that.

For your install that failed:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906602

When you ran the HP patch did you first do the steps on:
http://h10025.www1.h...471644&sw_lang=

Go ahead and try the SP3 download and install. If it doesn't want to install it may tell us why.
