Wireless internet keeps freezing, have to reboot

My wireless internet keeps freezing. I lose connection, I have to reboot and I have wireless again. Or i can plug in ethernet cord and it will work.
Also when I lose connection, the little wireless icon becomes frozxen, i cant click on it, to try and hit repair or anything.
I have tried the winsockfix program, still lose connection.
Sometimes it works for hours, sometimes only a few minutes. Other computers in house never lose connection. I think its computer related. Also my computer is about 5 feet max away from the wireless router.
plz help

Install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP if it's not already installed.
SP3 included a fix for wireless adapter problems.

Best way to get SP3 for a single computer installation is through Windows Update which downloads only what is relevant to your particular system.

Alternatively, you can download the entire "standalone" service pack for off-line installation from here:

already have sp3, and all windows updates.
the laptop is a dell 9400, it was running fine for 3 months, then this just starting happening for the past month or so, and it is terribly annoying.
