hi, I'm new to this site and I really need help getting one windows vista and a windows xp off of my laptop. as they are slowing it down and I don't have all that much memory left.


I had purchased my laptop off of someone from craigslist
and it already had 3 operating systems on it. the one I'm currently using is "non official copy of windows vista" meaning I cant access the BOIS menu nor can I have a wallpaper. but anyways, I'd really appreciate some help getting these unwanted operating systems off of my laptop.

Also if you are in Windows please do the following.

Go to Start then to Run
Type in compmgmt.msc and click Enter
On left side click on Disk Management
On right side you will see you hard drive.
Now I need you to take a screenshot and attach it to your next reply. Do the following to take a screenshot while the above is open and showing on your desktop.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

it is a GATEWAY W350A Laptop HDMI AMD TURION 64WEBCAM 1.5 MEGAPIXEL
it unfortunately did not come with any recovery disks.

OK looking at the screenshot I see only one OS installed. Where are you seeing the other OS's at?
Also there is a Recovery Partition on the system which if used would format the system and return it to Factory New installation.

when i start up my laptop it gives me the option to go into one of the other two operating systems.

ahh ok so at the boot menu you have to choose.
OK lets see what is going on here.
Please do the following in the exact steps. Failure to do so could make the boot.ini damaged and cause unstable or unusable results with your system.:

Save a Backup Copy of Boot.ini

1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl and then click OK.
2. Click on the Advanced tab, and then click Settings
3. In the Startup and Recovery area at the bottom click Settings.
4. Under System Startup click Edit. This opens the Boot.ini file in Notepad ready for editing.
5. In Notepad, click File on the Menu bar, and then click Save As.
6. First in here change the location in the top white drop down box to Desktop. Then in the file name change to Boot.old and save as Text Document(*.txt) and save it to your Desktop and then click Save



Please copy and paste all the lines from your Boot.ini file in your next reply.
