First of all let me say thank-you to any who have taken the time to look at this post and also for any help recieved.

I have a desk top computer which is normally hard wired to my wireless D-Link router (DI-524) and we also use laptops through out the house that recieve a wireless signal from the D-Link. Lately it seems that the wireless signal has been getting weaker and weaker and then last night it would not connect at all to the wireless. We contacted the folks who we get our internet serives fron (Uniserve)who had us hook up the desk top directly to the modem they supplied and we are getting internet to the desk top through the hardwire. So it would appear that their service and modem are working. This leaves me to wonder if the router could be faulty? I tried to phone the service line for D-Link but they only work 9-5 Mon-Fri. Since it is after 5 on Friday I will not be able to talk to them until Monday if they even talk to me as I think we bought the router 3 - 4 years ago.

My question is do routers wear out? Should I go buy a new router?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

It certainly looks like the router is the problem. NCIX in Burnaby has a good selection of quality wireless routers.

Interesting how Uniserve told you to check the router/modem and to verify wireless.

who had us hook up the desk top directly to the modem they supplied and we are getting internet to the desk top through the hardwire

.
You already knew you had a wired connection (or I assume so) by this statement

Lately it seems that the wireless signal has been getting weaker and weaker and then last night it would not connect at all to the wireless.

Have you tried a reset on the router?
Have you tried rebooting the router? Unplug the modem and the router. Plug the modem back in 1st and wait till its diagnostics are done. Then plug the router back in and wait till its diagnostics are done. Try the laptops.
If that does not work try a master reset on the router. There is a spot for reset that you push in with a paper clip.

Thank you folks very much for your help. I will try your suggestions and if that doesn't work buy a new router.
