Hi Rhino,

Lets put you out of your misery of feeling rejected.

You have several issues that need to be cleared up, as there are remnants of several infections, so to make sure the other parts are not lurking about we will do full remove processes on them.

Please print out these instructions to make it easy to follow and to have access to them when you have to reboot your pc. Please read through them prior to commencing to do anything and if there is anything that you are unsure of, or do not understand, please contact me first for assistance.

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.

1. Please download LSPFix from here.
2. Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
4. In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of dll relating to new.net
5. Select every instance of new.net dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
Also do the same with any instance of xfire_lsp_10650.dll that maybe present
6. When you are done click Finish>>.

Now go to ADD/Remove in control panel and if Newdotnet is present, remove it.

Now we need to download several programs to assist in the removal of all your malware.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Please download Cleanup from here:
Cleanup. Do not run it yet.

Set up PC to show hidden files.(Click link if you do not know how)
Show hidden files

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.bat. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Now using windows explorer locate and delete the following files/folders if found.

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iisver.exe
c:\windows\system32\vbykki.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\paul\APPLIC~1\TIMESH~1\eqviewsoftware.exe

Now run Cleanup

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. This may take some time, so go grab a coffee. Once it finds the first issue tick the box for all. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Hi Rhino,

Please uninstall microsoft spysweeper (we can reinstal it after you are clean) and disable Spysweeper as they interfere with what we are trying to do.

Rebooot into Safe Mode again, rescan with HJT and check the following

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://forum.sficlan...e=fivepointfive
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked.

Using windows explorere locate and delete

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Rescan with ewido.

Reboot normally, rescan with HJT and post logs back

Hi Rhino,

This nail sure is persistant :tazz:

Time to hit it with a bigger hammer.

* Please download the Killbox*In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

In full path of file to delete, copy and paste

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Then hit the red x button, click yes and then yes again to reboot.

Reboot into SAFE MODE and run HJT, Check the following

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Ensure no windows open and click Fix Checked

Ensure PC set up to show hidden files

Using windows explorer locate and delete the following, if still present

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Reboot normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back

Hi Rhino,

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
