My technician recently installed Linux Mint 10 Julia (I am new to the Linux world) on a separate partition on my computer. He set it up so that when I turned on my computer, I could choose Linux or Windows.

At first both systems worked fine. Then, for some reason Linux wouldn't boot and my technician reinstalled it. While reinstalling it, he also resized the partitions as I had some complaints about running out of space on Linux.

But I could no longer get into XP. When I clicked on it, the screen went black with a blinking curser. No error message.

On a Linux forum I was directed to use the Windows CD to get into the Recovery Console and type in FIXMBR.
Then neither system worked.

So I was told to use the Linux CD to repair Grub 2. Linux started working again but not Windows.

So it was suggested that I type the following three commands (X=the cd-rom drive letter) into Windows Recovery Console:
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:
FIXBOOT

But still Windows just goes black with the blinking curser

Hi,
Open a terminal (console) and enter:

$ sudo os-prober
$ sudo update-grub

It should find XP and add it to the boot options when you restart.
