Hello
I have been on the site before and have found it very useful. I hope someone can help me.

I have a Compaq desktop and I am installing new memory. I was wondering if it was possible to install DDR2 memory on a DDR system and what would happen if I did. The computer currently has 4x256mb, max is 4gb and I am installing 1gb plus keeping 512mb. Please let me know. Thanks

Its not possabe, those types of RAM arnt backwards compatable. DDR2 would be faster but you cant put it in a system that uses DDR RAM or otherway around. Unfortunaly regular DDR RAM tends to be a little more pricey as well.

Go to HERE and run the Crucial online scanner.
This will give you the exact memory configuration for your system.
You do not have to buy the memory from there, but write down the information and if you need assistance in purchasing the upgrade memory GTG can assist with suggestions also.

You are welcome. As stated before the DDR memory is older so the different capacity amounts is limited and it is a little higher in price.

Ok I have figured out what I need. I have another question. A friend of mine gave me his computer and it had two sticks of ram with no info on either of them. I want to find out if I can use them. All I know is that they are Samsung. I have called Samsung and they were no help. Anyone have an idea where I can find out which pc they fit and what capacity they are.

The only info that is on them is on a sticker that reads the following:

MDD333-32x64LD 19978

Samsung said that this info could not help them id the ram. Aslo on the ram itslef it reads:

SAMSUNG 530 at the top
K4H280838E-TCCC in the middle
ZKA154BJ KOREA at the bottom

I don't know if that helps. I am hoping that I can use these or help someone upgrade who can use them.
