Hi Sal,

Ok thanks for messaging me..

I seem to have a problem at the moment with my Volume Control.

I have tried to play some youtube and other videos and the Sound is dead altogether.

I went into Control panel and found the volume control..But it doesent make any difference
when I alter any of the controls..

I wonder if I have switched something off wehn you had me go into My computer..tools,
folder Options.. view tab... I dont think that I had to actually alter or tick anything..
as the boxes were ticked or unticked already to your suggestions.

Other than this I dont know what to do ...

Please check if there are problems for sound driver in the device manager.

To do this:

Press Start > Run then type the following the press enter:

devmgmt.msc

Tell me if you see any in the list with question/exclamation mark present.

Ok, I will try reloading a driver..

what was unusual is that I was able to listen to a realtime player audio
and I could hear the sound ok with that, BUT not a youtube video..or an other video
type that I played..

If you can hear the audio when playing from other audio player it would mean that there is no problem with your current driver. No need to reinstall.

Try restarting the machine and check if the video audio has been restored.

Just restarted and tried a youtube video, and the sound is still off.

As you say it works with realtime player, so you would think that the
sound should be ok.

Im not sure if the modem would be responsible for the sound..

Regarding the Modem, when I look at modems in control panel,
it lists Conexant D480 MDC V.9x Modem and says its not functional.

Yet IF it is the modem that I am presently using.. it is working...
I am not on wifi, im connected to a modem..

so unless it has something to do with the sound.. I am unsure.

I was able to access a log for the modem below..

I relatively recently changed to a new modem about 6 months ago.

Yes the modem has nothing to do with the audio.

Please try playing youtube using another browser i.e, Chrome.

You may download the installation here.

Lets see if this problem is limited to browsers.

Just tried playing youtube on firefox..and still no sound :)

When I look in control panel for sounds..

There is a lot of options within it

for eg on the tabs.. theres volume, sounds audio , voice.

in sounds I noted the following..

theres something called sound scheme.. its a drop down menu and theres two options..

NO sounds.. and windows default..

I NOTE that NONE of them is selected.. I suspect I may need to select windows default and
save it...just wonder if you agree before I try it..
