Hi,
I got an error message about a Dr. Watson Postmortem debugger program. I looked it up and it said it was a Trojan or a virus of some sort. I think i has disabled my Trend Micro antivirus because I got an error of PCCguide.exe and it has somethign to do with it and my trend micro doesn't really work now. I have used the programs:
-spy sweeper
-spy bot search and destroy
-ad-aware
-clean up
-HijackThis
I found a bunch of stuff and deleted it off my computer using the spyware removal programs, but when I did HijackThis, I don't know which are legit programs and which aren't legit programs. Therefore I would please like it if someone could quickly go over my logfile of it and tell me if there is a virus or trojan in there, it might not be Dr. Watson but I think i have something, and then please tell me what files to delete, thanks a lot.

Welcome to GTG.

Glad you found the correct forum to post to. :tazz:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Web Savings
Admilli Service

SpyKiller - itís rogueware (or known to be rogueware in the past) and we highly recommend that you uninstall it. Rogue/Suspect means that these products are of unknown, questionable, or dubious value as anti-spyware protection.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINNT\Belt.exe
C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\
C:\Program Files\WebSavingsfromEbates\

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Thanks for the help, however the programs:

Web Savings
Admilli Service

SpyKiller - itís rogueware (or known to be rogueware in the past) and we highly recommend that you uninstall it. Rogue/Suspect means that these products are of unknown, questionable, or dubious value as anti-spyware protection.

I could not find and delete. They were not in add/remove programs and i did a search for them and was unable to find them. When I use my trend micro spyware search i find admilli and ebates adn stuff and i press delete, yet everytiem i do the search, it comes up again, so i don't know how to get rid of those. I also could not find any of the following doing the search:

C:\WINNT\icjxgo.exe
C:\WINNT\Belt.exe
C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\
C:\Program Files\WebSavingsfromEbates\

I did use hijack this though and fix all the items you said to. I don't use sbc yahoo anymore and so i am not sure if i need all the stuff in my hijack this log and i don;'t have zone labs anymore i deleted that a while ago. I do have kill box and wasn't sure if it would be of any help but whatever, here is my new hijack this log:

Any ideas what these two are for (downloaded from websites, just little script/programs)?

O16 - DPF: {511073AD-BE56-4D43-AE68-93390514385E} (TechToolsActivex.TechTools) - hcp://system/TechTools.CAB
O16 - DPF: {99CDFD87-F97A-42E1-9C13-D18220D90AD1} (StartFirstControl.CheckFirst) - hcp://system/StartFirstControl.CAB

If not, fix them in HijackThis also.

Do you have show hidden files and folders enabled? Just want to make sure (so don't get offended by this :tazz:), did you check those entries first and then hit the Fix Checked button? Some users are just using this for the first time and might not understand this correctly, so I just want to double check here.

Are you doing these in Safe Mode?

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://channels.aimt.../aimtoolbar.jsp
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://yahoo.sbc.com/dsl
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TNdbSa7I] C:\WINNT\icjxgo.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Belt] C:\WINNT\Belt.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Admilli Service] C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\AdmilliServ.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyKiller] C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe /startup

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINNT\icjxgo.exe
C:\WINNT\Belt.exe
C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\AdmilliServ.exe
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe
C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

HiJackThis seemed to have worked by looking at the logs. When I first did HijackThis I did follow the steps correctly and I had all files including hidden ones checked to search for or make visible and I did check the entries first and then hit fix checked :tazz: , however I found what was wrong. You may have noticed that the first time I got rid of all of the R1, the O2's, O3's, the O8's, and the O16's but not the O4's. It was all because of my Ad-watch. Its a program that comes with ad-aware that locks up the registry so no programs can sneak in like these and it blocks pop ups and things. I found that when i hit the fix checked button the Ad-Watch would block HijackThis from trying to delete the o4's from the registry. So i turned it off and deleted them with HijackThis. I ran another Hijackthis and the log showed no sign of any of them. I turned Ad-Watch back on and then ran HijackThis and they were all there again. It says in Ad-watch four registry modifications blocked. So I guess I can't use ad-watch anymore. Unless there is a way to reset it to lock registry from now on. If so please let me know. Thanks, oh and I used Kill box and hopefully deleted those files. Thanks a lot, here is my new logfile.

Yes, I should have caught that myself :tazz:

I personally never tried out Ad-Watch before. Is there a way to delete the history/backups for it? See if there's anything for it in the settings. If not, uninstal Ad-aware completely. Restart and see if the Lavasoft/Ad-aware folder is still in C:\Program Files\. If so, delete it and restart again. If not, just reinstall Ad-aware now. See if Ad-Watch still brings those entries back.

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
