popeil,

Welcome to the GTG Forums, I will be reviewing your HJT log.
Please read "ALL" of the instructions before proceeding:
You may want to print out these instructions for a reference.

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
Nailfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
SafeMode Help

Once in SafeMode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Now scan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O2 - BHO: Band Class - {0007522A-2297-43C1-8EB1-C90B0FF20DA5} - C:\WINDOWS\enhtb.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked

Using Windows Explorer find and remove the following folders/files if present.
C:\WINDOWS\enhtb.dll <-- File
C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll < -- File

Start CleanUp
When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
Uncheck cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea.
Click OK
Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
When asked to reboot system select No
Close CleanUp

Restart your computer into normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan by using Add Reply

Thanks,
rstones12

popeil,

Please reboot and post back a new HJT log.
Do you remember where you saved the file and what location.

It should be on your desktop.

Thanks,

popeil,
OK, good job so far. We have some more work to do..

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop. Dont run it just yet.

Enable show hidden files and folders:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Now Scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [susp] C:\WINDOWS\susp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Anou] C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\ewra.exe

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://kb.bar.need2f...earch.html?p=KB

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)

O16 - DPF: {03F998B2-0E00-11D3-A498-00104B6EB52E} - https://components.v...sweeps_voom.jsp
O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://download.side...00719/sb028.cab
O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} (Personal System Administrator Control) - http://206.65.172.23...ll/gtdowngc.cab

Close all browsers and open windows except HJT, then click the Fix Checked button.

Now using Windows Explorer find and remove the following folders/files if present.

C:\WINDOWS\susp.exe <-- File
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe <-- File
C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\ewra.exe <-- File
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\ <-- Folder

Start CleanUp
When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
Uncheck cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea.
Click OK
Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
When asked to reboot system select No
Close CleanUp

Reboot your system.
Once your system has restarted let it sit for about 15 minutes dont open any programs or browse the Internet.

Now run Findit
  • Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It may take awhile so please be patient ...
Then post the results here along with a new HJT log by using Add Reply

Thanks,

popeil,

It looks like the HJT log is the same, did you follow all of the instructions??

Did you have any issues or problems when going through the fix?

Thanks,

I did not find any of these files

C:\WINDOWS\susp.exe <-- File
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe <-- File
C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\ewra.exe <-- File
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\ <-- Folder

Also, when I tried to run Findit the first time, it prompted me to unzip more files, which i did, and then it ran fine the second time.

Other than those two issues, I followed all of the steps in your last post in exact order.

popeil,
OK, let try a different approach to this.

Please download Pocket Killbox
Click Here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit.
Unzip the program and save it to your desktop, dont run it just yet.

Next reboot your system into SafeMode

Do not open any windows or programs just yet.
Scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [susp] C:\WINDOWS\susp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Anou] C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\ewra.exe

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://kb.bar.need2f...earch.html?p=KB

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)

O16 - DPF: {03F998B2-0E00-11D3-A498-00104B6EB52E} - https://components.v...sweeps_voom.jsp
O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://download.side...00719/sb028.cab
O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} (Personal System Administrator Control) - http://206.65.172.23...ll/gtdowngc.cab

Now with HJT click the Fix Checked button located in the lower left corner of the application.

Now lets run Killbox
  • Double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
  • In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
  • In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file paths listed below ONE AT A TIME (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure!):

C:\WINDOWS\susp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\ewra.exe
  • Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one.
  • When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button.
  • Do this after each one until you have entered the LAST file path I have listed above.
  • After that LAST file path has been entered, press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts.
  • If you receive a message and your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
Once back in Normal Mode run the CleanUp program.

Reboot once again and post a new HJT log by using Add Reply

Thanks,

I haven't seen an Aurora pop up in a while. I think we killed it.

What actions can I take to keep my system clean?

Thank You for your help. I appreciate it.

I've got a tall cold one waiting for you... :tazz:

popeil,
Thing are looking good, how is your system running?

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera is OK as well.
Be sure to also keep up with Windows and IE updates.

Windows security and critical updates.

Internet Explorer security and critical updates.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Thanks,
