Using Firefox 15 on an XP pc I get a choice of search engines, on the right side of the Firefox tool bar. I want Google. But I keep getting Ask.com, even though I have used the facility that allows me to pick my choice. HOW (if at all) can I prevent Ask.com from recurring? Thanks.

Uninstall Ask Toolbar and anything related to it.
See this page: http://about.ask.com.../index.html#na4
After that, you can set your search engine back to Google.

devpers94: Thanks. But I can find no Ask.com entries on my Add/Remove listing. Could it be that the Ask.com program is embedded into the browser?

Try disabling the Ask Toolbar on Firefox with Addons Manager.
And no, Firefox never comes with a 3rd party toolbar.

Found this in another topic almost 3 years ago. I just tried it in FF 4 and it worked.

In Firefox, click 'down' arrow in the search bar and choose "Manage Search Engines.

Highlight & remove any you don't want.

In the search bar, click 'down' arrow and select Google.

Google should stay as the default
