First of all Hello! I am new to Geeks to Go!

I am having a problem, which started when i attempted to uninstall Avast! anti virus.
After uninstalling Avast! I have not been able to open any txt files, access properties in My Computer and Desktop properties, and in Control Panel can't open up vital icons such as folder options, region and lang., etc.

followed the guide to remove malware, trojans, and Spyware to no luck.

Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated, thank you^^

Have you tryed to unistall the antivirus program yet?

Somtimes runnig a restore can get you in trouble, especially if you have had viruses in the past and have not cleaned out your restore folder. So if you did a restore and are presently clean of viruses, you may get them back from a previous restore point.

An alternative to restoring follows :

move the i386 folder from your windows cd to the root drive.
open the cmd
navagate to the root drive
write : winnt32 /unattend

it would probably have to be the windows CD that came with your computer to do this, im not sure if you can do this with restoration disks from manufacturers like dell .

Unfortunately I had system restore turned off due to save some disk space >.<

Uninstalled by using 'Add or Remove Programs' in Control Panel, and now I can't even access that!

I tried this and guess what? I can't even open the CD on my CD drive! *cry*
Can't even start it in 'run' =(

I guess you can say I'm good enough where i can go into regedit and not screw anything up ^^

This PC that I'm on is the 5th PC that I put together (started building as hobby in 2001)

can you still go online? Have an On-line scan at this sites: Trend Micro or Panda Scan or BitDefender.
Note: tick the auto-clean box.
REBOOT again.

I suggest you start with Ad-aware 1.06 and the new release of Spybot S&D 1.4, have all the updates. If still persistent, try the 30-day trial of Spy Sweeper. If things are still unstable, Then we'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool HiJackThis and post a log as a new topic in the HijackThis Forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

ok if your happy with regedit The 1st thing I would do is just go for a look
start regedit And in the find put Avast and see what it finds.
you might also have to search for who made Avast.
eg Symantec makes Nortons etc. Is this clear enough
If not let me know

One problem: Tried to access Regedit through 'run' but I can't access it =\
Is there another way I can access Regedit? Remember I can't click on most icons >.<

when I type "regedit" in the run dialog box, and press ok after, the hourglass symbol pops up like it's loading for a sec. at least and then, disappears and does nothing.
