I have been working on resolving this for three weeks by following instructions on every posting I could find on this site and others related to this issue. I have run Spybot, MalewareBytes Anti-Malware, MS live, Hijack This, many others that I apologize for not having a record of, and now Old Timer. I have edited my host files many times first disabling virus protection and Spybot and then saving file to desktop and then transfering it back to the etc folder. Strangely, when I access the host file through the run command, I see the bad entries (www.google.com and many others). When I navigate to the etc folder, I do not see them. Also, after weeks of receiving a "page not found" error message when accessing google, I now end up at a site with Chinese characters, although no redirecting is visible to me. The address also does not change, but reads www.google.com. I have had numerous viruses and this is the first I have needed help eliminating. Your help is greatly appreciated.
