I have been told by several different people that i could do this. Take the reboot disc for my windows xp and use it on my windows me and my windows me will be rebooted to an windows xp is this true cause i dont want to screw up my pc.

Hi, yes it is posible to upgrade from ME to XP but your win XP CDROM will only work on the PC that it is registered on, so unfortunately, no it won't work, you would have to purchase another copy of XP.

All legit copy's of XP are going to have to be registered ... even if you burn your own CD (reboot or install) it still will ask for an authentication number after install and once the login window appears. The modules that enable the reboot disc to work are the same ones that are at work when you install XP.

I make my own install disc's for windows so i can slipstream the Service Packs into the installation (saves alot of time) and i still have to enter an authentication number on every re-install.

You can try it ... but if you don't have an unlock code i would suggest sticking with ME - Once you put XP on there it may or may not accept ME again without a low level reformat.

He could also be talking about a recovery disk. some oems give you the option to write a recovery disk for your system.

Oh and as far as I know you can't upgrade the me to xp unless it's an upgrade disk. IF you want to completely wipe out everything then you can put xp on over whatever you currently have. However if it is like I suspect and you have made a recovery disk it is keyed to the hardware in the computer it was made on and will not work nor would it be legal even if it did.
