Check that you have the CPU fan plugged into the CPU header and not the PSU header. If the CPU fan is set to auto in the BIOS it should go full speed at start up, then slow down, then speed up as the CPU comes under load.

Have you updated the OS?
Mobo drivers?
Leave updating the Graphics until you have a stable system and you have created an image of the boot drive.

Can you get those horseshoed cables up the back of the Mobo?

Here is a site dedicated to SSD. Explore it, read carefully and remember that using suggestions are at your own risk. > http://thessdreview....zation-guide-2/

- I think the CPU heatsink wasn't securely fastened to the motherboard, but it didn't help much with the temps. Now when I enter BIOS, instead of being 87, it starts at 55 and slowly increases up to about 78-79. I think I may have improperly applied the thermal paste. However, since it says it takes about 200 hours before the paste cures, I still want to wait another week before I take it off and start again, just in case.

- CPU fan is plugged into tje CPU fan slot.

- Downloaded many updates for Windows.

- Updated Mobo drivers

- Some wires can be brought through the back (I already have some going that way) but the main culprit is the 24-pin cord from the PSU to the Mobo. It is just short enough to not reach where it needs to. I can try sending it out through a different hole, but I want to wait until I get a backup image of the drive before I start disconnecting everything just in case something gets fried.

- That SSD site is actually one of the sites I was using to make adjustments.

Your temps are still to high. By fastening down the heatsink you will have disturbed the paste quite a bit so probably not getting good contact. When the TIM has cured, I doubt you will see much more than a 3c drop. Remove the heatsink, clean up and then reinstall making sure not to use to much TIM.

Your temps should be about, 30c to 35c idle and 65c tops, full load.

Sorry about the long delay, it's been a crazy week. I had replaced the heatsink with new thermal paste and instantly saw better temps, mid-to-high 30's in the BIOS.

I got a new SATA cable (only 4 came with) to connect my HD from the old computer to the new one internally.

I managed to get many of the cables to go through the back of the Mobo, Even if they weren't going far, I got the excess out of the way. The main culprit is the thick 24-pin cable from the PSU to the Mobo, which is just quite short enough to not reach.

I made a backup using the Paragon software in the above link.

Put the sides back on the case and loaded it up onto the desk.

I think I'm finished, so to iammykyl and Troy, thank you very much.

Thanks for the update. Great to hear everything has turned out OK.

That on cable ALWAYS seem to be a pain.

Remember to clean the inside of the PC periodically as well as the air filters.'

Good luck.
