Hi,
I have some serious malware infection that I just cannot get rid of, I have tried spy bot, advast, avg, microsoft anti-virus and ad-adware and none can completely get rid of the thing....it's actually been getting worse...i.e. popups from internet explorer coming up dozens of times even though I don't use IE....it also seems to self-replicate, i.e. I'll remove all infected files and right away the same ones will re-appear....I have microsoft anti-virus and ad-adware installed at the moment, it's the only way I can keep the thing in check and I may need to re-install something else because it just seems to be getting worse. Thank-you in advance.

Please don't post any other logs unless we ask for it. We didn't need the CCleaner log at all. :tazz:

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. Do NOT run it yet.

Please download nailfix at http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip (for Windows XP) or http://users.pandora...y/nailfix2k.zip (for Windows 2000) Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd (or nailfix2k.bat if you have Windows 2000). Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Post the log from the Ewido scan here.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O3 - Toolbar: Netscape - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-D7EE-FE6FA781BF33} - C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLO~1\netscape.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll,DllRun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe] C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lomhwc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lomhwc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msxct] msxct.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wmv8dmod] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wmv8dmod.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [b0tFRWdtj] phopsetu.exe
O16 - DPF: {47CD99DF-8BCF-4B9B-94EF-02E51B2F79DA} - http://www.alwaysupd...ll/aun_0017.exe
O16 - DPF: {EC51659D-721F-4CBF-9CEA-5E776D89CEA9} - http://www.pacimedia...ll/pcs_0017.exe
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Delete these if found:

c:\windows\system32\koiaes.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxct.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\tbwpuhniw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lomhwc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wmv8dmod.exe
phopsetu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Restart your computer in normal mode and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Do this also:

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here.

Hi,
I think I did everything as per your instructions, the only file I couldn't find from the HJT was "O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) ...." but I was able to delete the rest. Okay, here are all the results, thanks so much for your help.

OK, I want you to delete that nailfix tool you have there and get a more updated one we have below:

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Please download nailfix at http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824 Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Post the log from the Ewido scan here.

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\creditcard32123123123asdsa1.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kevid231231aa1.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pinkkas.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vhe233a12.ico
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe] C:\WINDOWS\VCMnet11.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here.

Okay, I think it's getting somewhere, no popups at least....here's the latest. I am not sure if the FindIt thing worked the first time....it came up with some error and then "press any key to continue" and then it generated the report that I posted below (the third log in this post) - so i did it a second time and that log is the final one below - the second time it had the line that says it will take awhile and not to do anything until it generates the log but it again gave me the "press any key to continue" line and so I did and then it opened notepad with the log. Anyway, I am not sure whether it was correct the first time or what but it certainly did not take a long time to create the log, less than twenty seconds, which I thought was odd because you mentioned it would take awhile? Thanks again.

Personally, I haven't ran that file myself, but heard it might take a while. Maybe not, depending on what you have? It looks correct the second time around. Does it give you a detail error (like run time error)?

Boot into Safe Mode and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\MC-58-~1.EXE

It's the first file that begins MC-58-......some other letter/numbers.exe Delete that file.

Besides that:

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Hi,
Yeah I think the findit error was a run time error. Everything seems okay, I just ran the quick scan in Ad-Adware and it found 32 things...The other day I was done to just one thing in an Adware scan and then it suddenly got worse, I am wondering whether the same thing will happen again? Or is it just insignificant items that I should let Adware take care of?

Man those logs are huge. Try not to post them again unless we ask for it :tazz:

Did you delete that file yet?

I see betterinternet there, so let's see if this tool will find anything.

Download FixBinet, but don't run it yet.

Boot into Safe Mode and run FixBinet.exe and then restart.

Run Ad-aware and see if it still finds a lot of things. If it's just cookies, you should be ok.

If you want, wait a day or so before posting back here. If all is well, post back saying so, so that I can close this topic.

Make sure you get those prevention tools I asked you to get in my last reply. They should help out alot.

Sorry about the logs, I promise not to post any unless directed to do so, from now on...
There seems to be good and bad...I have installed all the recommended spyware prevention stuff to hopefully prevent further infections and I had Ad-aware delete all the stuff it found....I ran the fixbitnet program and it found no "betterinternet" rubbish....but now when I boot into windows I get "DrWatson postmortem debugger" error within a typical looking microsoft error reporting box and my comp freezes...I can get out of the freeze by crtl/alt/del one version of "drwtsn32.exe" that is running under processes, actually I delete it but it doesn't actually disappear, everything on the desktop goes, reappears and this file stays in the menu BUT that stops the computer freeze. Also, there are two "drwtsn32.exe" running under the processes section. Hopefully it will be easily to get rid of this non-windows drwatson?? Oh, I did manage to run another Ad-aware full scan and it found nothing....

Do a search for drwtsn32.exe and see how many instances of that program you can find. Then upload all the files (or file if only one is found) to this site. Submit it and post back the analysis it gave you.

Were you able to delete that file I mention to delete earlier?

Run Spybot and see if it finds anything.

Restart and give me a new HijackThis log.

Yes, if you are talking about this file - C:\WINDOWS\System32\MC-58-~1.EXE - I did
delete it at the time you mentioned it. I found one drwtsn32.exe in windows\system32 this was the only instance of the file except three others which had the following extensions - drwtsn32.exe.hdmp, drwtsn32.exe.mdmp and drwtsn32.exe-2b4b52ac.pf. I just ran them all through the website but they all had the same results as the main drwtsn32.exe file (the log is below) so I won't put the analysis of the other three in, unless you want them. Ran spybot, it found a couple of things, WebTrends and Hot Bar, both of which it deleted...finally the new HJT this log from after the reboot [the freeze thing/error message was still there at that time as well]

Regarding that drwtsn32 problem, I will need to consult with the other experts as I'm stuck with this one also. I see no other signs of any infection here.

As soon as I get a reply from one of our other experts/staff here, I will post a reply back here.

Okay, I look forward to hearing about drwtsn32.exe and whether there is any chance of a fix, I hope there is, although it is not as annoying as dozens of popups continually blocking everything...I am very happy that all of the other malware got cleaned up so quickly and want to say thank you once again for walking me through the whole process and getting rid of it all, I certainly would not have been able to do it on my own.

This one resembles one of the infections we know about, but I don't see any signs of it. I guess we can run it to see if it will fix your problem. So here goes:

Download AboutBuster http://www.greyknigh...AboutBuster.zip and unzip it to a folder on your the Desktop. Run AboutBuster and click OK. Click Update and then Check For Update to see if there are any updates. Close the program now.

Download and unzip cwsserviceremove to your desktop. use either link below:
http://computercops....F...oad&id=3002[/url
http://www.mytechsup...rviceremove.zip Don't run it yet.

Boot into Safe Mode.

Run AboutBuster and click OK. Click Start->OK and then follow the rest of the prompts to scan (choose Yes/OK for all). It will ask you if you want a second scan, choose Yes. Save the log file and post it here.

Run cwsserviceremove now and say yes to merge it.

Boot back to normal mode:

Download Hoster http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Hoster.exe://http://www.mytechsupport.ca/helpwit.../spy/Hoster.exe and run it. Choose the 'Restore Original Hosts' button and press OK.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at [url="http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan"]http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

If that still won't do it, I'll wait for a reply. As soon as someone comes up with another idea or method to try, I will post back. :tazz:

No luck I'm afraid, the AboutBuster didn't find anything, but I will put the log below...The only odd thing that happened was after finishing the stuff in safe mode and booting back into normal mode I got a couple of warnings from the real-time protection programs that changes were being made to the IE settings, such as the homepage and search url. Anyway, I couldn't allow or block the changes because of the freeze thing but I don't know if that stuff was at all related to the drwtsn32 problem any way. Then I ran the online scans and the panda one found about forty infected files [that it couldn't fix], most of which were in the temp internet folder so I don't think they should be a problem. I will make a list of these other ones though so you can let me know if you think I should delete them manually or whatever, I tried to have the other programs fix them, but none except the panda program could detect any infections.
