Let's get started..

I can't see anything really bad on your log which could harm your system. Just a couple optionals, but let's see if we can find something else.. See below;

You should check that you have all critical updates from Windowsupdate!

1. Please download all of these programs next;

- Spybot S&D

- Ad-Aware SE Personal, Build 1.06 {In case you have an old version/build of this program or any other of these programs running, please then uninstall them before installing the new ones.}

- Clean Up


At this point, if you wish, I recommend uninstalling Messenger Plus. If you have installed it with the Sponser program, then there is just more reason to uninstall it. You can reinstall it later.
Also, if there is programs at the Add/Remove programs list, which you don't need, I'd recommend uninstalling them.

Run the programs, as instructed on those links.

3. After you have done that all, please run AT LEAST three of these free online scans here;
- Trend Micro
- BitDefender
- RAV
- Kaspersky
- Jotti Virusscan
- F-secure


5.Now run CleanUp. It will ask you to reboot to finish the cleaning. Confirm with "Ok" or something similar.

Once your windows is loaded, you might want to try Disk defrag, followed with a Check/scan disk (depending upon version of windows). Then please launch HJT, and click "Do a System Scan and save the logfile". Please post that scanlog here. We'll continue with HJT when you have posted the new log.

thanks so much for helping me,i really appreciate it
i did all the steps you told me to, and everything seemed to be fine this morning when i turned my laptop on, after turning it off last night after running cleanup. cpu was running around 30%, even with music and videos running at the same time. however, that was short lived, and its now back to its usual 100% cpu usage. i have also noticed that the svchost.exe process is running 5 times in the task manager, using up quite a lot of memory.

I can't see anything bad on your log still,
but if you wish to remove few optionals which aren't required/necessary and just wastes resources if you don't use them,
then please read this post fully...

Run HJT, {close any open windows and/or open browsers}
hit the button to "Scan", and check these objects for removal once the scan has finished;
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot {Scheduler installed along with RealOne Player. Once installed, it runs independently of RealOne Player. Not required/necessary.}
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime {System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards}

Make sure that the above mentioned objects are checked, then click "Fix Checked".

Btw,
new release has come for the SpyBot S&D..
If you could,
please do this if you want to use it... Needs few steps..
1. Undo immunization
2. If SDHelper and TeaTimer are enabled, deactivate them first.
3. If Opera Browser is installed, de-select protection for Opera Immunity
4. Uninstall old version of Spybot S&D
5. Reboot

Download HERE.
Install it,
update it,
run a new scan.

But your log is clean like generally.
Let's try those couple optionals.
Post back & tell us how you make out.

I did as instructed, and again all seemed fine in the first five minutes of me deleting those processes from hijackthis. But again my laptop is now back on 100% cpu usage.
is it normal for the task manager to be running 5 bersions of svchost.exe, to a total of around 50,000K ???

I would also advise not to use both Spybot's Teatimer and MSAS' resident protection, since they do largely the same job and they might conflict.

I don't know which causes your laptop's slowness, but Svchost processes isn't the problem.

Hi Rawe
My laptop seems to be working OK now, at least for what I want to do with it. If it gets any worse, Ill probably just reinstall windows again and be careful when installing stuff, doing things step by step to see if the problem comes back and from where.

Check these out, to help to keep your machine clean so that you will not get infected;

Detect and Remove Programs:

• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

Prevention Programs:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

Other necessary Programs:

• AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
• Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
• More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox.
