Here you go:

JOTTI:

Service load: 0% 100%

File: DQZip32.dll
Status: MIGHT BE INFECTED/MALWARE (Sandbox emulation took a long time and/or runtime packers were found, this is suspicious. Normally programs aren't packed and don't force the sandbox into lengthy emulation. Do realize no scanner issued any warning, the file can very well be harmless. Caution is advised, however.)

Dark_Star_Qc,

Please reboot into SafeMode:

Now lets run Killbox
  • Double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
  • In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
  • In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file paths listed below ONE AT A TIME (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure!):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\DQUNZI~1.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DQZIP32.DLL
  • Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one.
  • When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button.
  • Do this after each one until you have entered the LAST file path I have listed above.
  • After that LAST file path has been entered, press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts.
  • If you receive a message and your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
Once back in Normal Mode run the CleanUp program.

Reboot once again and post a new HJT log by using Add Reply

Thanks,

I think I remember doing this in one of the previous steps. In any event, it's no longer in the list in Add/Remove Programs. But the entries still appear in the HJT log...???

Dark_Star_Qc,

The following entries are optional fixes. It is however best to disable them within the application itself, so they dont run at start up. These are resource hogs...
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Fichiers communs\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerDiscovery] C:\Program Files\MessengerDiscovery\MessengerDiscovery.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\bin\jusched.exe

This one.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe

If you are using ITunes, this is a valid program that is required to run at startup.

Hum... what's a "resource hog"...?? :tazz:

And although I've just changed configuration for AOL IM, Yahoo and Skype so they don't load at startup, I can't find where to change it in QuickTime.

As for the 018 Protocol entries, can't I just check the boxes in HJT and fix?

Dark_Star_Qc,

Sorry about that, it is what is referered to as an application that takes up system resources.

To stop QuickTime at Startup, you can right click on the icon in the system tray, then under preferences untick the run at start up box.

Those O18's should have gone away when you uninstalled Logitech Desktop Messenger???

Yes, well, as I said, I did remove it because it's no longer in the list in Add/Remove Programs... ;)

As for QuickTime, I looked again, but I still can't find that option in Preferences... They sure knew what they were doing when they designed that... :tazz:

Dark_Star_Qc,

You can disable these by doing the following:

Go to Start | Run then type msconfig
This brings up the configuration console, you can disble them under the Startup Tab

Your HJT log looks good.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera is OK as well.
Be sure to also keep up with Windows and IE updates.

Internet Explorer security and critical updates.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Thanks,

Thanks... I already have and use Ad-aware and Spybot, but I'll make sure to install the others you suggested... :tazz:

But can I remove the O-18 entries with HJT?

Hello?

Any idea why I still have those entries in the registry even though I removed the program...?

And can I delete them manually??

Thanks.

Dark_Star_Qc,
That is unusual that those would still be in the log.

Please do the following.

Start HJT and open the Misc Tools Section:
Then Click on the Open Uninstall Manager

Click on Save List, this will create a text file, post the contents of that file by using Add Reply

Thanks,
