It began with the Vista startup sound not working, now there are no system sounds and I cannot enable the audio service. There is a red x by the speaker icon in the taskbar. Moving the pointer over the icon reveals a message "The Audio Service is not running". When I attempt to enable it a message appears; "Failed to start the Windows Audio Service" appears. Some functionality will be unavailable". Then I get error 1059. "Windows could not start audio service on local computer. Circular service dependency was specified". On boot up I also have a message saying the ATI graphics driver is missing or improperly installed. The entire system is very slow and erratic.

Go on your start menu and type services.msc. Scroll down to Windows Audio, and try to enable that by clicking start service.

Thanks for the reply. When I tried enabling from there the following message came up: "Windows could not start the Windows Audio Service on Local Computer. Error 1059 Circular service dependency was specified"
