I just bought an Imac and partitioned the hard drive using Bootcamp. I am running Windows 7 on one portion and the Mac Os on the other. We probably use Windows more than Mac OS, including on the internet (kids playing Wizard101, etc.). Do I need antivirus software? If so, do I need it only on the windows "side" or both? Your recommendations are appreciated thanks.

For Windows?, it's a must. For Macs?, more for safety, since Windows gets more viruses than Macs.

Some good Windows anti-virus

AVG - http://free.avg.com/
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware - http://www.malwarebytes.org/ - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Avira - http://www.avira.com/
Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/ - RECOMMENDED
Avast! Antivirus - http://www.avast.com/ - SEMI-RECOMMENDED :) Some features are just... not right.

Not much Mac viruses, but some popped up, including "Mac Defender" a rouge-AV.

CLAM AV - http://www.clamxav.com/ - Based off of the Clam AV for Windows OS
PC TOOLS iAntivirus - http://www.iantivirus.com/ - Yeah, self-explanatory.

Hi manoman66:

It's a general misconception that Macs are safer

A confidential internal Apple document tells the company’s front-line support people how to handle customers who call about malware infections: Don’t confirm or deny that an infection exists, and whatever you do, don’t try to remove it. See for yourself

To the Imac part no. For the windows you need antivirus software. Just get some Free AVG on it.
