What is the best free virus scanner there is atm?

I use AVG free. is there a better one?

That is kind of a personal preference. I myself use Avast and have for over 2 years now.
The home user can get it for free and register it every year. It updates at least once a day and most of the time every morning and every evening.

I have been using the free version of Avast and I have had no problems since I installed it over 2 years ago. They have made some great improvements over years.

Like the others said , it is your own choice...I myself would recommend avast! as it is a rather user friendly antivirus to me. You can also get malwarebytes as a back up scanner . However , i wouldn't recommend AVG as it is one of the worst antivirus in my opinion .

Some other things to take note , no antivirus have 100% detection rate. Prevention is better than cure , so it is more important to surf the net safely.
