To whom it may concern:

A fake Antimalware and Antivirus somehow "installed" themselves on my computer and started constantly running in the background to the point where I could not do anything. Windows claiming virus detection continued to pop up. I had to restart my computer in safe mode to run Malwarebyte's and my legitimate Antivirus (Avira) which picked up on the threats and removed them. However my computer is still acting up. Certain icons don't open up after double clicking. When I load up add/remove programs from the control panel the list is empty for some reason. Also Avira is disabled for some reason and the enable option is not available. Usually it is always on. I finally got to reinstall it but I just want to make sure there are still no lingering problems with my computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

UPDATE:

Audio is also not working. Music files open but then the application freezes. Speaker controls don't open, a "no mixer device detected..." error message pops up.

I posted earlier about a virus and malware infestation. No matter how many times I scan the computer with Malwarebytes and Avira, they keep picking up items. The computer continues to slow down after being on for a few minutes. Now I can't even log into Windows. The message I get is missing or corrupt <windows root>\system32\hal.dll when I try to start up windows. The situation is getting worse, I don't mind reformatting at this point but I really need to retrieve my data first.

Thank you
