My computer will not connect to the internet

Called verizon and the tested my wireless router. Its working just fine. All of the network adapters and drivers on my computer are reading updated and working properly. But I still cannot connect to the internet. Please help me! Also, my firewall is turned off on avast anti-virus software, but I cannot update it because I need connection to the internet. Do I have a virus?
