If I upgrade to Windows 7 will I loose the installed files and programs? In any case which upgrade should I go for, this isn't my normal computer as I use the desk top in the main.

Thanks you in advance

If you choose the upgrade option then no but custom install yes, as a precautionary measure I would back up all your important data in case of a failed upgrade resulting in a full install being required.
When upgrading from Vista to W7 you must use the W7 equivalent of Vista home premium or whatever flavour your present OS is, this http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en may help.
