I have accidentally deleted a windows file that lets me scroll on the touch pad. I think this same file had other things it ran as well. My computer is now slower than before I ran the ccleaner. I also ran ARO11. I am afraid to run anything else without advice. I have herd that combofix does a good job, but I am very apprehensive. I do not use internet Explorer, I use firefox 4 Here is the results from the OTL log. Bless all you people for helping save our souls & computers. Thanks Kathleen

Click on All Programs and Accessories, then right click on Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator.

In the command prompt type this commad:

sfc /scannow

Make sure to include the space between the first "c" and the "/".

This will run the System File checker and it will scan for corrupt or missing files. It may prompt you to insert the CD if it needs to obtain files.

Please post back when it has finished letting me know what it has reported.

Download AVPTool from Here to your desktop

Run the programme you have just downloaded to your desktop (it will be randomly named )

First we will run a virus scan
On the first tab select all elements down to Computer and then select start scan
Once it has finished select report and post that.

Posted Image

Do not close AVPTool or it will self uninstall, if it does uninstall - then just rerun the setup file on your desktop

Now an analysis scan
Select the Manual Disinfection tab
Press the Gather System Information button
Once done Open the last report saved folder then attach the zip file to your next post zip
The file is located at C:\Users\your name\Desktop\Virus Removal Tool\setup_9.0.0.722_05.01.2011_20-34\LOG\avptool_sysinfo.zip

Hi Salagubang, There are no ? or ! next to anything in the list. Were you able to pull up the attachment? There were lots of question marks & exclamations in that list. Also did you look at my very first post? I just wondered because there was someone else who asked if I still needed help the same day as you did, but they asked which forum did I post in, they said they couldn't find my post. I did mention in that post that I have the paid version of AVG & even though I was asked to post in (virus, spyware, Malware Removal) I never thought I had this kind of problem. My computer is very slow to boot up & slow to open a page. Could too many applications be running at the same time? I honestly have no clue. I will just keep running the programs you ask & let you tell me. Thanks Tikker

No.

I am not seeing any malware reference in the logs. I assume you still have all the CD that came along with the laptop when you first bought it as we might soon need to do a full recovery - hopefully not. Please back up all files and documents of importance to an external media.

In the meantime, go to your laptop's manufacturer site. Download and install the driver/utility for Synaptics Touch Pad Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)(v13.2.6.1; 09-28-2009; 28.62M).

After installing, restart the machine and see if solves the issue.

:)

Hi Salagubang, Hip Hip Hurray! The scroll is working again in the touch pad. Thank you for helping me fix this problem. Now, How do we get the computer to start up faster & download faster? I am not looking for lighting speed although that would be nice, I just know that when I did get this new less than a year ago it ran much faster, & then when they did a complete system restore through Toshiba it never ran the same. I didn't get any cd's with it. They told me they don't send out cd's anymore with refurbished computers. They did say I could order them for extra money if wanted. Sense the system restore I have not yet backed up the computer because I feel I don't want to restore it until it is running like it was before. Thanks Kathleen
