Computer recognizes SD but not Micro SD

I'm running Windows 7 Pro with the latest updates. When I put an SD card in my reader the computer recognizes it and it shows up in Explorer, but when I put a MicroSD card into an SD adapter and insert it into the reader, it doesn't show up. I thought it was a bad MicroSD card so I bought another 2 MicroSD cards and neither one shows up. Any help would be appreciated.
