I have removed viruses from my computer with Avira (free version), which were several different Trojan viruses. Avira now says I have one hiiden object. I also used Malwarebytes (free version) to clean up. I am left with problem that if I click on Google links i am sent to site other than the one I want. I have to type the actual web address into the top line on the screen. I have tried to follow your instructions with OTM, OTL and erunt.exe etc. and have saved the attached files.

what should I do next please.

Hi, magsofpendle! Welcome to GeeksToGo! My nick name is Render and I will be assisting you with your Malware/Security problems. Please make sure you read all of the instructions and fixes thoroughly before continuing with them. If you have any queries or you are unsure about anything, just say and I'll help you out :)

It may well be worth you printing/saving the instructions throughout the fix, so you have them to hand just in case you are unable to access this site.

Please note:
  • Remember to post your logs, not attach them. So, any logs from any programs we run, should be just 'copied & pasted' into your reply.
  • Please only run the tools that I request. I know malware can be frustrating but running other tools in the meantime and between posts, only makes it harder for us to analyse and fix your PC in the long run.

Please do the following:

  • Please download aswMBR.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it.

    Posted Image
  • Click the Scan button to start scan.

    Posted Image
  • On completion of the scan click Save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply.

OK. Try with this:

Rootkit Unhooker:
  • Please download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your desktop.
  • Now double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to run it.
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
  • Check (Tick) Drivers, Stealth. Uncheck the rest and then click OK.
  • Wait till the scanner has finished and then click File, Save Report.
  • Save the report somewhere where you can find it. Click Close.
Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in a reply here.

Note** you may get the following warning, just click OK and continue.

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

Yes. Avira is right. There is something malicious out there.:)

Please do the following:

Posted Image OTL Custom Scan

  • Double click on the Posted Image icon to run it.
  • Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top, make sure Stadard output is selected.
  • Select Scan all users
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Copy (select all lines inside quote box and press CTRL+C) and Paste (press CTRL+V) the following code into the Posted Image textbox.

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    volsnap.*
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /rs
    hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /64 /rs
    CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Click the Posted Image button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open OTL.Txt in Notepad window.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the content of this file and post it with your next reply.

Okie dokie. Try to do this first:

We need to run an OTL Fix

  • Please reopen Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Copy (select all lines inside quote box and press CTRL+C) and Paste (press CTRL+V) the following code into the Posted Image textbox.

    :OTL

    :Files
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\volsnap.sys|C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\volsnap.sys /replace

    :Reg

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]

  • Click on Posted Image button.
  • OTL may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  • Click on Posted Image button.
  • A report will open. Copy and Paste that report in your next reply.
  • If the machine reboots, the log will be located at C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log, where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run.

Hi Render

Well, I carried out your instructions to run OTL Fix BUT when the computer rebooted I am unable to connect to the internet. I am now using another computer. Also, Avira has been turned off and I cannot turn it back on. when I turned on initially before receiving your last instructions Avira was still telling me that it had detected a virus and did I want it removed but I did not click on remove as I was waiting for more instruction from you. There was also a new icon on the desk-top for Zortam mp3 media studio, which I have put in Recycle bin, but I keep getting message from WinPatrol if I want to include this program in start-up and I click no each time.

I am unable to open messages in my hotmail account, even on this computer I am using now.

The report from my last action running OTL is below:

All processes killed

Unable to replace file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\volsnap.sys with C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\volsnap.sys without a reboot.

Hi Render

I carried out your last instructions to run OTL Fix, but when computer rebooted, I was unable to open Windows Explorer, not even offline, or connect to the internet. Avira was closed and I could not restart it. I had not used the remove button on Avira previously to get rid of malware it had detected after last but one action (RKUnhooker). I am now using another computer and when I opened Hotmail on this computer I could not open any messages.

On my computer I had a new desk icon Zortam mp3 which I removed to the recycle bin and emptied the recycle bin. however, a message is continually coming up still: Win Patrol keeps asking,
WINLOGON: USERINIT
C:\Program Files\iekbapgb\nkcnkppr.exe
Zortam Mp3Media studio
Do you approve of start-up setting?

so I keep clicking No

Windows Firewall also asked me if I wanted to keep blocking action and I agreed

The report from the last action is below:

OK. Please use some USB removable drive to transfer our tools and logs between working and infected computers. Please do the following:

Step 1

Do this on your working computer (not infected):

  • Please download Panda USB Vaccine here (you must provide valid e-mail and they will send you download link to this e-mail address) to your desktop.
  • Install and run it.
  • Plug in USB drive and click on Vaccinate USB and Vaccinate computer.

Step 2

On your infected computer:

  • Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it.

    Posted Image
  • Click the Scan button to start scan.

    Posted Image
  • On completion of the scan click Save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply.

I am now using another computer and when I opened Hotmail on this computer I could not open any messages.

This is on your working or infected computer?
