Hi! I'm sorry to disturb you and I feel very guilty for immediately asking for help before even introducing myself, but it's just that I've always considered myself relatively up to date with my security, but what's going on in my computer right now just baffles me. Any help you could provide would be very much appreciated. :tazz:

I am currently using an IBM laptop, with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 installed and all critical Windows updates installed and Zone Alarm Pro (15 day trial) as my firewall.

My problems are:

A) Windows Explorer problems:

If I right click on or try to delete a file in Windows Explorer, it takes about 20 seconds before I see either the menu or the 'confirm delete' option respectively. Until about a week ago, both used to appear instantly.

Any subsequent file that I right click on or delete responds instantly. However, if I close the Window and start Windows Explorer again, then the problem occurs once again for the first file and then everything is okay again for the subsequent files.

The same slowness occurs when I try and open certain files, such as Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets and mp3 files. There is no noticeable difference in the opening times for Notepad text documents, however.

It also occurs when I select the 'Play all' option in Windows Explorer for audio files.

During this slow period, when nothing seems to be happening, if you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, you get the End task option, and if you choose to 'End Now', you get the 'An error has occured in Windows Explorer and it needs to close' message following which it asks you whether you want to report the error to Microsoft.

Please note, that this slowness only occurs while I'm connected to the internet. If I disable the connection, then all runs perfectly fine.

B) Internet Explorer problem:

Since the above problems started in Windows Explorer, .gif files have just stopped animating in Internet Explorer. This includes animated emoticons in forums and any pretty much any animated picture in general. It just stands there as a frozen frame. For instance, if there is a 'lol' emoticon, it just appears as a face with a smile and the white teeth, but it doesn't move at all. ;)

This is what I've done so far:

1) Used the software CCleaner to remove all the temporary and cached files.

2) Run the latest version of CWShredder.

3) Run a full system scan with Microsoft AntiSpyware with all the latest updates.

3) Run the latest version of Ad-Aware under your Custom Settings.

4) Run Spybot with the latest updates.

5) Run a full system scan with Norton AntiVirus 2003 with the newest virus definitions.

I removed everything that was detected by Microsoft AntiSpyware and Ad-Aware, which were the only two that detected anything.

The problem is still very much there, so here is my Hijack This log:
