Hi there!

I received this message on a black screen when I turned on my computer:
Internal hard disk drive not found
To resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive

No bootable devices - Stike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics

After some digging, I read that I should try the hard drive in a different computer. My family has two identical laptops, so I moved the harddrive the other computer and (THANK GOD) it worked! I tried putting the other hard drive in the defective computer and got the same errors as above. Since I know it isn't the hard drive, what's my next step or probable cause?

Thanks

Is the laptop under warranty? If not then it might be time to replace it...

Or if you're really keen, look for a Dell laptop parts supplier to supply a motherboard and swap it out. I find they're usually worth quite a bit and just recycle the old one and get a new one though.

Actually another thought - maybe you could update the BIOS first if there is an update available?

In addition to what Troy has suggested if your laptop is capable of booting
from a USB device you could try using an external HDD enclosure such as the
one pictured below, it will not however resolve the underlying cause of the
issue.
