I want my computer to be like new again. I want to reformat it.
I need some advise on how to go about it.
I have a laptop and I'm not sure if I have the OS Cd.
I might but I'm not sure.
Thanks in advance.

What make and model laptop?
Did you receive recovery disks when you bought it?
Did you buy it brand new from a store?

What make and model laptop?
HP Pavilion dv 9000

Did you receive recovery disks when you bought it?
I do not know.

Did you buy it brand new from a store?
I bought it brand new from FutureShop a number of years back. I know the warranty is up on it.

HP: These steps will format the system and return it to the same state it was when you bought it brand new. This will depend if there is a recovery partition on your hd also.

Press the power button to start the HP. Press and hold the F11 key to launch the HP Recovery Manager from the recovery partition.

Is there anything else that I will need to do?
And what will happen?
How long will it take?
Will this remove any viruses and the such from my system as well?
Sorry for so many questions, Ive never done this before.

If you get into the recovery partition then just follow the prompts to format and reinstall your system. The drivers and everything should be there for your system just as they were when you first bought it. Any programs you have installed will need to be reinstalled.
Also any data will be completely wiped out.

How long will it take?

Should take about a hour maybe a hour and a half :)

Will this remove any viruses and the such from my system as well?

This will depend on the virus as there are some that a simple format and reinstall will not get rif od. Are you saying you may have a infection?

Alright so, I did the reformat and everything is working great. The only thing that confuses me is, I have file called Electronic Arts and within the file is EA link and The Sims Life Stories. I do not own this game and I haven't installed any games yet. Any ideas?

Simply go to the Control panel
Then to Add Remove programs.
Then uninstall the game

If you did do a full format and fresh install then it is the only way the program was installed is through your recovery partition installation and was included originally on your system. :)

The bloatware game is included with your laptop. Same with mine. Don't even bother with it, the games boring as heck.
