I have a Dell D410 running XP pro. Everything works OK when using a mouse. When using the cursor stick I can move the cursor where I want to but when I take my finger off, it travels slowly to the left. When using the touchpad the cursor is OK for a couple minutes after turning the laptop on but then moves swiftly off the screen. It's difficult to even get the cursor to move back on to the screen area and when taking the finger off the pad it moves quickly back off the screen and you can't get it to stay still to click on anything. I have run Avira antivir, malwarebytes and Migo Registry Repair.I adjusted the touchpad sensivity to low-medium. I checked to be sure I had the correct drivers according to Dells web site. Is it possible that a corrupt driver is the problem? Would it be either the notebook system driver or the alps driver? Is there something else I can check or do? I had a similiar problem with a Dell 810 which I solved by replacing the keyboard but it didn't work with the cursor stick or touch pad.
