picasa photo's disapeared

my brother did a system restore back to the 26th of May, because it seemed like I got some kind of virus, which also wiped out the photo's on my desktop. Was the virus coming from my picasa pics? He also did a virus scan and zero was found. When he was working on this he saw an instant flash on the desktop, I think the photo's that were on there flashed like a white sillutte. When I opened picasa all of my photo's are gone. several years worth of family parties etc.
