Hi there

I'm new to this forum, so hello all and please be gentle with me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop.
It runs on Vista (service pack 2).
32-bit Operating System
Memory: 2.00GB

For the last few months, I've been getting BSOD. The blue screen goes too fast for me to be able to read what it says in full. However, when I've gone into event manager, I've seen that the computer was rebooted from a bugcheck.

I've also seen before the blue screen disappears on me the following:
aswSP.sys
tcPip.sys

Can anyone please help and let me know what I can do to solve the problem. I've uploaded my Memory dump file, in the hope that someone can interpret it for me. I tried to do it myself with Windows debugger but got really lost and thought I'd do more harm than good

Apologies in advance for missing out any vital information, but I'm not very clued up on Techie stuff. Please ask if I have missed anything out.

Thanks.

Elle

Hi could you do the following please

  • Download a fresh copy of Avast to your desktop
  • Download aswclear to your desktop
  • Uninstall Avast via Programs and Features
  • Reboot
  • Run aswClear
  • Reboot
  • Install the new copy of Avast

Let me know if that clears the problem

Thank you for your quick response.

I've done everything you said. Fingers crossed. I'll monitor it and will let you know if it works or if it continues.

This does occur sometimes if you do an upgrade from within the GUI - version 6 is sometimes prone to this

That crash was within a windows file

Could you run a check disc

This page gives details on how to do it and you want to do this check

To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

Hi Essexboy

Does this check take hours? As I've been checking since your last post and it seems to be stuck on 83% and the number of files has not changed for the last hour. I don't know if its frozen or doing something.

Thanks!

Good morning

I left my laptop on overnight to do the check, ie at least 7 or 8 hours.

It's still on 83%, ie the amount it was on last night when I went to bed.

I think it's frozen. Is there anything I should do please or should I leave it a bit longer?

EDIT: It's now three hours since I posted the above: still at 83% and stage 5.

Thanks.

Hi there

Thanks for your reply.

I've rebooted. It doesn't BS immediately, it's normally in use for a few hours before it does. Sometimes it can be a day or two and it doesn't BS.
