OK Thanks.

Let's give it a week. If it doesn't BSOD I'll post on here to let you know. No doubt if it does, you'll be the first to know.

Good morning

I ran chkdsk again in safe mode. This time it went through ok and showed no errors, to my knowledge, but the messsage comes and goes really quickly. Does it save the log anywhere so I can show you please?

Thanks.

How annoying. Just got BSOD again. Here's the dump attached. Think it said NTFS.sys this time.

Thanks for your help.

OK lets check out your file veracity next, before we move on to the drivers

Go to start > All Programs > Accessories
Right Click Command Prompt and select run as administrator
When the prompt opens type the following bolded text and press enter

sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)

On completion reboot

Let me know if it finds any errors

The little g*t BSOD while I was doing the above. Here's the latest dmp file. If you want me to stop sending these to you, please let me know. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I am starting the scan.

Thanks.

OK on a small minority of systems Avast can actually cause this - so once the sfc is done and if it reports no errors remove Avast using the previous procedure

To keep you safe for the moment download and install Microsoft Security Essentials

Let me know if that makes a difference :)

Hi again

I'm downloading Microsoft Security. Meanwhile, there were errors and they are attached. The exact meessage was:
'Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log'.

I've attached a zip of the CBS log.

I'll also download a new version of avast when the above has finished.

BTW, if you think I should switch to a different anti-virus checker, please let me know!

Thanks.

It will depend on whether or not you are one of the unfortunate minority. Avast have not yet been able to track down the cause, they cannot reproduce it on their test systems. However, they are getiing a fair few full dump files for analysis :)

It's annoying: I installed avast on this laptop, my husband's laptop and my desktop: it's only this laptop that's been a pain.

Avast has not responded to my dump file from the weekend.

The full dump files are in the order of megabytes - so they do take a while to trawl through. Are you trying to get help via the Avast forum ?

I uploaded the file dump when I saw the asWsp message, as I searched on google. I hope this hasn't offended you.

However, I thought it was a sound driver problem as I listen to the radio a lot over the web and it makes a nasty noise when the BSOD comes up...

Anyway, at last, I've managed to do everything that you instructed above... My laptop kept freezing, so it's taken a while.

Thanks very much for your help.

Not at all I was going to suggest we get a full dump and send it to them :)

If the BSOD continues with MSE then we will need to look at drivers etc...

Afternoon

I was out of the room when it just BSODed... but the event manager said:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x0000000c, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x87d5042e). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP.

Thanks...
